MARATHON CITY, WI. March 23, 2017 – The Village of Marathon City announced today that Gordy’s Market has withdrawn from the City Center project. Despite this announcement, the Village of Marathon remains committed to constructing the new Marathon City Center Project and is actively engaged with multiple grocery companies to operate the new store.

“The project plan contains multiple contingency plans to address potential challenges that may present themselves in a complex project like ours,” states Village Administrator Andy Kurtz. “We have been working diligently to execute the contingency plan since we were notified of the change.”

Activities related to the project will continue, including property acquisition, demolition, environmental remediation, utility relocation and site preparation. These elements of the project plan must be completed before construction can start regardless of who the grocery store operator is.

“We have a window of time to secure a new grocery operator for the project without major changes to the project timeline,” says Kurtz. “Representatives from Gordy’s Market are working with us to expedite the process.”
