County Materials Corp Announces Matching Grant Support for Marathon City 2020 LTD’s The Power of Com

County Materials Corporation has announced the company will contribute up to $10,000 to the Marathon City 2020 LTD’s The Power of Community Campaign benefiting the Heritage Center Park project. County Materials, through the Sonnentag Foundation, will match $1 for $1 up to the next $10,000 if enough money is raised through The Power of Community Campaign by August 15, 2018.

“We are proud to support the Marathon City 2020 and help ensure the completion of the Heritage Center Park project,” said Rebecca Sonnentag, County Materials’ VP of Promotions and Communications. “Our company’s matching grant is intended to generate more community awareness and support for the project. We recognize how a park and gathering space like this can visually enhance our downtown, attract more visitors and business, and improve the quality of life for residents in our Village.”

Sonnentag, who also volunteers as the MC2020 Secretary, encourages community members, business owners and anyone with ties to Marathon City to donate to the Power of Community Campaign and earn sponsorship opportunities.

MC2020 is raising money to transform the worn-out parking lot and abandoned bank drive-thru on the Heritage Center property into an environmentally friendly and inviting greenspace. This “pocket park” will feature a covered stage, raised planting beds with built-in seating, a transitional area for additional seating or entertainment, bike racks and more so it can serve as a multifunctional place for education, relaxation, entertainment, and cultural attractions. To date, MC2020 has corrected issues with the Heritage Center's front cornice and installed a new visually appealing sign.

MC2020 kicked off The Power of Community Campaign on October 26, 2017, and will continue it through August 2018. The organization is working to secure the remaining $20,000 of its fundraising goal and begin construction in July. Anticipated completion is the end of August so a grand opening can be scheduled for Labor Day weekend 2018 during the annual Fun Days community-wide event.

“The matching grant offer by County Materials is both generous and timely to support our organization’s fund drive efforts and ultimately our community,” said Board President Edee Zuleger. “We value all the help local businesses and organizations are committing to our community project. County Materials shares our vision for a thriving downtown that offers a welcoming gathering space; the Heritage Center Park will be a vibrant resource and place where people can celebrate community pride.”
